城市精神是城市的精神生产和精神生活发展到一定阶段的产物,是城市的政治、经济、社会发展的综合反映,是城市文化的集中体现。20世纪上半叶,随着中华民族的传统文化与新文化在大连这座新兴的工业城市的流传,以爱国爱乡、广纳创新、自强不息、勇立潮头为核心价值观的大连城市精神在同日本统治当局推行殖民文化的博弈中生成,顽强地生存和发展;探赜解放前大连存在时间最长、社会影响最大的中文日报——《泰东日报》的历史,可以清楚地看到这一点。

City spirit is an outcome when spiritual products and spiritual life have reached a certain stage, a comprehensive reflection of the political, economic and social development of a city, a representation of a city culture. During the 1st half of the 20th century, with the spread of the traditional Chinese culture and the new culture in Dalian-a newly emerged industrial city, the city spirit of Dalian came into being and vigorously developed during the process of fighting against the colonial culture imposed by Japanese colonists. The core value of the spirit is： loving one＇ s motherland and hometown, absorptive and innovative, constantly striving for self-improvement and pioneering. It will be very clear to see the city spirit when we probe the history of Taidong Daily-the most influential newspaper in Chinese with the longest history in Dalian.
