Objective To explore the effects of families' participation in peer education combined with rehabilitation therapy on the activities of daily living of elderly stroke patients. Methods Totally 70 elderly stroke patients were randomly divided into experimental group(n=35) and control group(n=35).The control group received conventional drugs treatment, routine nursing care and rehabilitation training. The experimental group received three-month families' participation in peer education besides the measures of the control group. The activities of daily living(ADL) and motor function of the two groups were assessed by Barthel Index and Fugl-Meyer motor function integration method before and after treatment for three months. Results After the treatment, the scores of ADL and motor function indexes in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P0.05).Conclusion The families' participation in peer education combined with rehabilitation therapy was beneficial to the recovery of motor function, the improvement of activities of daily living and health behavior management. It is a feasible and effective form of health education for elderly stroke patients.
