It was recorded in Tian Gong Kai Wu that the raw materials Jingdezhen were called Jingmi Clay, which was from Gaoliang Mountain in used for porcelain making in Wuyuan County, and Nuomi Clay which was from Kaihua Mountain in Qimen County. Presently, People disagree on what Jingmi Clay and Nuomi Clay stand for respectively. In this paper, a textual criticism of the two items is made through the reference of relevant ancient documents and the comparison of the results of craft experiment , thus a conclusion is drawn that ancient potter called kaolin as Jingmi Clay, and porcelain stone as Nuomi Clay because their properties were difference while calcined in kiln.
