"Tao" and "Phronesis":A Comparative Study of Patterns of Technological Development

中国传统哲学的"道"与亚里士多德的"实践智慧"有某些共同之处,同时也有根本差别。比较两者的共性与差别,不仅有助于理解中国和西方技术发展的不同模式,而且对处理当代科学技术与社会的关系有重要启发意义。"实践智慧"立足于西方文化传统,对于逻辑思维是非常有益的补充。而"道"的观念则提供了控制技术发展后果的另一种思路,具有更大的启发性。这一思路通过与"实践智慧"相互补充,将有助于引导技术走向和谐的发展模式。

There is something in common,as well as something fundamentally different,between ＂Tao＂ in traditional Chinese philosophy and Aristotle＇s ＂Phronesis＂.A research into the similarities and differences between the two will not only help understand different patterns of technological development in China and the western countries,but also shed light on how science and technology is related to society.＂Phronesis＂ has its roots in the western cultural traditions,which is an effective supplement to logical thinking whereas the concepts of ＂Tao＂ regulate the outcomes of technological development by providing another more illuminating perspective,which will contribute to shaping the technological trajectory towards a harmonious model of development through the mutual complementation between ＂Tao＂ and ＂Phronesis＂.
