Abstract: In golf terminology, "dog - leg" is usually translated literally. After analyzing the cultural difference which was contained in the word of "dog", we hold that westerner introduce the word of dog -leg to golf terminol- ogy in the form of metaphor, because they like the dog, but Chinese usually sick of it somehow. Therefore, we suggested that the noun of "dog - leg" is not suitable for literal translation, and propose that "the bend of the lane" is our first choice, and there are other alternative words such as "hook -like lane" or "bowed lane" for instead.
