Japanese family firms have not only good business performance,but also a long life cycle compared with those in other countries.This is closely related with Japanese unique adult adoption institution.This paper describes the characteristics of Japanese adult＇s adoption institution and its differences with that in other countries.It analyses the positive effects of this institution on the family firms in Japan and the reason.Finally it explores the enlightenment of this institution which takes ability as the only standard instead of blood relationship in selecting family firm successor for Chinese family firms.
