维新官僚的代表人物李端棻在1896年6月12日上《请推广学校折》,第一次全面系统地提出了以建立新式学堂为中心的教育改革方案。本文根据《请推广学校折》一经五纬的具体内容,论述《请推广学校折》在近代中国教育史上特殊的地位与作用。

June 12, 1896, Li Duanfen, a Qing royal government official fervently supporting the Reform Movement, submitted his ＂Petition for Popularizing School Education＂ to the throne. This document, for the first time, outlined a comprehensive education reform program centered around the establishment of schools of a new style. This paper attempts re - evaluate the document and interpret the special role it played in the educational development of modem China. Focus will be on the different aspects of the proposal.
