Expressions of Rhetoric in English Negation and Its Translation

否定在语言交际中能表达修辞效果,使否定语气加强或缓和以便更好地满足交际者的实际需要。英语否定修辞的主要表现形式为委婉否定和加强否定,二者有不同的词汇手段和句法手段,因此,其汉译的策略也不同。

Negation can express rhetorical effect in the daily communication. In order to better satisfy the actual needs of the speakers, we need frequently to make the negative mood stronger or milder. This paper discusses the expressions of rhetoric in English negation from the perspective of lexical level and syntactic level-that is the expressions of mild negation and emphatic negation, and the methods and strategies of its translation from English into Chinese.
