“高头”一词作为方位词，不仅用于吴语中，也存在于广大南方方言中。主要有表示定向方位和泛向方位两种用法。其出现时间大概在唐宋时期，在近代的文学作品中非常常见。

＂Gfiotou（高头）＂ as a term position, is not only used in Wu dialect, but also used in the majority of dialects in South China. There are said to the pan-directional orientation and the use of two directions. It appeared in Tang and Song dynasties, and is commonly used in modern literature.
