摘要 MPEG4 标准不只是一种压缩技术,它更提出了一种全新的数据表示方法———面向对象的数据表示方法。MPEG4 标准的建立将使多媒体通信由可能变为现实。本文综述了MPEG4标准的基本原理、主要特点,并重点介绍了MPEG4 中的视频标准,进而阐述了MPEG4 标准在多媒体通信中的应用及其前景。 MPEG 4 aims at providing standardized core technologies allowing efficient storage,transmission and manipulation of AV data in multimedia environments.In other words,it aims at providing a common solution to tomorrow′s MPEG 4 terminal.It is not just a compression technology but it brings forward a brand new conception of data expression,that is,object oriented data expression.The foundation of the MPEG 4 standard will bring multimedia communication into real application.This paper gives an overview of basic principles and main characteristics of MPEG 4,emphatically introduces its video standard and explains its application to multimedia communication and its prospect.
