On the Bamboo-totem of Guiyang

贵阳别称"筑城","筑城"就是"竹城"。"竹城"名称反映了贵阳在古代翠竹葱茏。贵阳人爱竹,古代贵阳人对竹的理解和中原的汉族文人不同,竹不是高尚品德的象征,而是民族的图腾。今天打造"筑城文化广场",其设计理念要表现贵阳地方文化的个性,诠释民族传统文化。

Guiyang is also known as Zhucheng, meaning the City of Bamboo. The name indicates that Guiyang was a city where grows beautiful bamboos in the old time, and reflects the love of the residents for this plant. Bamboo is the totem of the nationality to ancient residents but not merely a symbol of virtue. In the construction of the Zhucheng Culture Square, the combination of the totem reflects perfectly the local culture of Guiyang.
