现代化是中国共产党成立以来特别是新中国成立以来的不懈追求。周恩来作为新中国经济建设的直接领导者,为新中国规划设计的经济发展目标是"四个现代化"。这个战略目标的形成,经历了1/5世纪还多的时间,曾有过从"工业化"到"建设现代化工业国"、从"完整的工业体系"到"独立的国民经济体系"、从"四化"概念的提出到完整表述等几个阶段和几种提法,并逐步趋向科学化和规范化。周恩来对中国现代化的理论与实践探索,成为中国共产党和中华民族的宝贵精神财富。

Modernization has been a ceaseless pursuit of the Communist Party of China since its establishment, especially since the founding of new China. A direct leader of economic construction of China, Zhou Enlai set the ＂four modernizations＂ as the goal of economic development of new China. The shaping of this strategic objective ent wordings from ＂industrialization＂ to ＂building a modern industrial country＂, from ＂building a complete industrial system＂ to ＂constructing an independent system of national economy＂ and from the introduction of concept of ＂four modernizations＂ to the complete expression of them before the objective of ＂four modernization＂ took shape. All this belongs to the precious spiritual treasures of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese nation.
