The scenes of athletic events painted on ancient Greek pottery can be of importance to sports science scholars interested in the historical development of athletics.With the help of these pottery paintings,we can better understand and research the literature,aesthetic objects and athletic activities of ancient Greece.These rare art works also provide valuable insight into the sport styles of the classical period.Utilizing ideas from sports science and aesthetics,this paper analyzes how these images directly reflect ancient Greek athletics and the integral nature of athletics to ancient Greek history,culture and art.Specifically,this paper analyzes the aesthetics of the pottery paintings in terms of their representations of athletes,sports and sporting events.
