The use of denominal verbs adds to language expressiveness, which makes expressions more concise and vivid,and easy to understand. Motivated by conceptual metonymy, the use of denominal verbs is in accord with principle of economy. This paper focuses on metonymic motivation of human organ words as denominal verbs in English as well as their stytistic function and rhetorical effect. It can better demonstrate effective transmission of motor image from source noun domain to target verb domain, which provides a new perspective for further study of conversions and their cognitive motivations.
