The analysis of Plato＇s mimesis based on his Image of the Bed, we can deduce a ＂hierarchical structure of reality＂, thereby understanding its intrinsic metaphysics and judgment of epistemological value. If we take a look at Xie He＇s ＂transmis- sion by copying＂ from the perspective of the development of Chinese painting theory, we can deduce a ＂gradual process of im- provement＂, which includes the three stages of artistic practice copying, sketching and conveying vividness. These interpre- tations and comparisons can help us disclose the main characteristics and forms of ＂mimesis＂ and ＂transmission by copying＂ which are same in appearance but different in essence.
