Oxidative desulfurization of fuel catalyzed by peroxovanadium complex in ionic liquids as extractants was reported. Under the optimal conditions, the removal of dibenzothiophene in a model oil reached 98. 8% with 1-butyl-3-rnethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate as the extractant. The catalytic system could be recycled for 5 times without obvious decrease of the activity. The results showed that the deep desulfurization could be achieved by the catalytic oxidation with the ionic liquid as the extractant.
