A Comparison of Naturalistic Images in Tess of the D'Urbervilles and The Awakening from a Social Environment Perspective

《苔丝》和《觉醒》同属19世纪末的伟大文学作品,两部小说的共同特点之一在于对意象的巧妙运用,并且作者不约而同地选用了一些类似的自然意象来塑造人物、烘托情节。通过对鸟、太阳、花、季节这几例自然意象的分析,发现作者在这些自然意象的描写和寓意上有所差别,而这些差异有着深刻的时代和社会环境根源。

Tess of the D＇Urbervilles and The Awakening are both masterpieces of the late 19th century.One of their common characteristics is the skillful use of symbolic images,and the authors simultaneously chose some similar naturalistic images.After comparing such images as birds,the sun,flowers,and seasons,it is found that they represent different connotations and characteristics in the two novels,and these differences are rooted in different social environments.
