《简·爱》和《呼啸山庄》都是以第一人称进行追述的小说,都是在讲述爱情"寻求"的主题,遵循"失而复得"的模式。简.爱和罗切斯特在相识相恋历经重重磨难之后,最终牵手走进婚姻的殿堂;希克厉在尘世虽然没能和凯瑟琳在一起,但当死亡降临后,他在死亡这种永恒中和凯瑟琳得到了同一。虽然两位作家作为生活在一起的亲姐妹所处的环境相同,作品里爱情主题模式也相同,但两部小说的情节结构存在着明显的不同之处,两位作家在处理叙事时间和故事时间的安排上大不相同,而这种不同的安排是由于文本的情节复杂程度决定的。
