咏物诗发展到中唐,许多动植物的意象已有丰富的文化内涵。元稹与白居易在复杂多变的中唐时期,通过咏物诗微妙地表达了自己不便言说的诉求。诗人通过对传统意象的经营运用,巧妙而坚定地干预现实,揭露社会弊端,展现心忧天下的胸怀,塑造高尚的人格理想,具有传统知识分子重修身、济苍生的远大理想。他们的咏物诗意象既有传承性,又独具个性。

The images of many animals and plants in the Object-chanting Poetry had been rich in cultural connotations up to the middle period of Tang Dynasty.YUAN Zhen and BAI Juyi,the famous poets of the middle period of turbulent and complex Tang Dynasty,expressed their subtle appeals through their object-chanting poetry.By utilizing the traditional image so as to firmly intervene the reality and exposing the abuses in a very clever way,the two poets developed their noble morality and lofty traditional Confucian aspiration of self-cultivation and devotion to the whole universe.Their Object-chanting Poems were unique and personal while inheriting the traditional images.
