Confusion and Perplexity:Ideological Dilemma Confronting Hu Sheng during the Middle Period of His Academic Career

胡绳面对1957年以后不断发展的"左"的指导思想,在学术上逐渐陷入迷茫与困惑的思想困境,其主要表现在3个方面:写作量不断减少直至最后放弃写作;学术观点的偏颇乃至错误;"文化大革命"结束以后对"两个凡是"思想的盲从。胡绳在此间的表现,决非个人独特的历史遭遇,而是当时的时代特征在学术思想上的一个缩影。从这一历史厄运中,得出的深刻教训是要始终坚持党的理论创新的正金字塔型机制。

Faced with the development of the Left-leaning deviation of the guiding ideology since 1957, Hu Sheng gradually landed in a ideological dilemma of confusion and perplexity as far as academic matters were concerned. This dilemma of his mainly consists of the following three aspects： the decrease and even the giving-up of his writing, the partiality of his academic views, and his blind obedience to the two ＂whatevers＂ after the ＂Cultural Revolution＂. Hu Sheng＇ s academic performances are by no means the result of his own unique encounters in history, but an epitome of the characteristics of the times on academic ideas. The lesson from this historical misfortune is to consistently stick to the mechanism of the regular pyramid model of the Party＇ s theoretical innovations.
