苏伊士运河危机不仅影响到美英整体外交关系,也对两国的核关系造成了不利影响。与此同时,苏联在核领域的重大进展对美国与欧洲盟友造成了不小的冲击。为此,美国正式将"雷神"导弹纳入美英谈判议程之中。在英部署"雷神"导弹不仅有助于安抚英国因苏伊士运河危机对美国产生的愤怒情绪,而且还有助于威慑苏联,这是美国北约核化计划的重要一环。英国支持美国在其本土部署导弹,但在使用导弹协商权问题上两国存在某些矛盾与摩擦。

The Anglo-American overall diplomatic and nuclear relations had been adversely affected by the Suez Canal Crisis.While the Soviet Union's big development in nuclear field brought about a tremendous impact on the United States and her European Allies.American government formally brought Thor missile into Anglo-American nuclear negotiation.Deploying Thor in Britain could not only calm British's anger toward America caused by the Suez Crisis,but also deter the Soviet Union.More importantly,it was an important part of American plan of nuclearizing NATO.The Great Britain supported the United States to deploy Thor in her territory,but there were still some contradiction and friction on consultation rights of missile usage between the two countries.
