On the Implied Meanings of"Black"in Hughes’Poetry

兰斯顿·休斯的诗以警示人的“黑色”表达了强烈的民族意识、对黑人的热爱、对本民族的自豪感以及唤醒同胞的责任心。本文对其诗作的研究表明，在他的笔下，“黑色”被赋予多重意蕴：或抒发个人情感，或再现民族精神，或表述文化、政治内涵，或展示黑色之美，从而突破了作品的表层空间，使之苍凉、雄浑、高亢，富含审美情趣，达到了含蕴其中、意境幽远的崇高境界。

The alarming ＂black＂ in Hughes＇ poems expresses his strong national sense ,his love for the black, his pride in his nation and his intense sense of responsibility to his compatriots. The present study on his poetry indicates that his ＂black＂ has been endowed with multiple implied meanings： expressing personal emotion, embodying national spirit, formulating cultural and political connotation, or exhibiting the beauty of black. Therefore, it breaks through the superficial space of the works and makes them desolate, forceful, sonorous and full of delights of aesthetics, reaching the noble state of subtleness and profoundness.
