In light of the theme of International Year of Chemistry,the paper introduce how polymer chemistry brought significant changes in the patterns of materials,how polymers closely related to our life and how important to our future especially to the demanding application for the development of high technologies.The history of polymer science and well recognized polymer scientists both academia and industry in China were briefly highlighted.The industry output and scales of individual polymer in China were outlined.The frontiers and challenge topics in fundamental research in polymer science were summarized.
