Senile hypopituitarism:characteristics of diagnosis and treatment

腺垂体功能减退症是腺垂体激素分泌减少所导致的临床综合征。老年腺垂体功能减退症患者的临床表现更为复杂,延误诊治可能会迅速进展为垂体危象。临床工作中需要提高对老年腺垂体功能减退的重视:低钠血症、低血糖症、不明原因昏迷患者应当进行腺垂体功能评价;已经确诊腺垂体功能减退者必须规范激素替代治疗方案,不得擅自减量或者停药。

Hypopituitarism is a clinical syndrome caused by reduced production of adenohypophyseal hormones. Senile hypopituitarism may show a much more complicated picture of clinical manifestations, and a delay in diagnosis and treatment may lead to rapi, d development of pituitary crisis. Therefore, clinicians should be alerted for senile hypopituitarism. For patients with hyponatremia, hypoglycemia and unexplained coma, an evaluation of pituitary function should be performed. Patients with confirmed hypopituitarism should remain on regular hormone replacement therapy （HRT） and are absolutely not allowed for self-initlated tapering or discontinuation of medications.
