A Comparative Perspective on Northeast Asian Regional Consciousness: The Impact of a Common Destiny on Collective Identity

区域意识是指某一地理范围内的国家对该区域的一种集体身份认同。研究区域意识的形成和发展,有助于我们更好地理解区域合作的现状和前景。本文通过借鉴和修正建构主义理论所提出的影响集体身份认同的分析框架,集中探讨共同命运这一变量对于区域意识,尤其是东北亚区域意识形成和发展的关键影响。在此基础上,通过简要比较东北亚同欧洲、东南亚之间不同的区域意识发展水平,对本文所提出的框架进行了验证,并运用这一理论初步解释了东北亚区域意识水平较低的关键原因。

Regional consciousness refers to the collective identity of states within some geographical boundary towards that region. Research on the formation and development of regional consciousness is useful for better understanding of the prospects for regional cooperation. This article borrows and builds from revisionist theories of constructivism to propose an analytical framework for understanding the factors that impact collective identity. It focuses on how common destinies impact consciousness, and especially on how common destinies cause the formation and evolution of regional consciousness in Northeast Asia. On the basis of this discussion, it also makes a simple comparison of regional consciousness in Northeast Asia, Europe, and Southeast Asia, considering the different levels of consciousness in each. This works to both test the analytical framework and apply it to understand why regional consciousness is so low in Northeast Asia.
