The Tributary Relations between Wuji and the Central Plain Dynasty

公元5世纪后期,勿吉逐渐强大,与中原政权之间的接触和交往日渐出现和增多。北魏孝文帝时遣使入贡,此后与中原各政权逐渐形成了长期的朝贡关系,直至北齐末年。其间勿吉向中原王朝朝贡多达31次,来贡较为频繁,但其朝贡具有很大的随意性,并未形成稳定的制度化的朝贡关系。中原王朝的民族政策和政治军事影响力,加上边境贸易的吸引,是勿吉与中原王朝保持这种朝贡关系的基本动因。

In the 5th century later,Wuji had gradually become strong and the contacts of Wuji and the central plain regime had increased.From the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Northern Qi Dynasty,Wuji had tributed for 31 times.This tributary relation was frequent,but not stable or institutionalized.The national policy,political ande military influence of the central plain dynasty,adding to the attraction of the border trade were the main factors that Wuji tributed to the central plain dynasty.
