汉民族主要的传统节日各有其来源与节庆活动内容,并具有重要的文化意义,即娱乐功能与狂欢性、祈福功能与宗教性、亲和功能与社交性、自然时序和时令性。与西方节日基于某种文化因素并由人为规定不同,汉民族传统节日是以自然节律为基础进而发展出诸多文化功能的。

The main traditional festivals of the Han Chinese each have their origin, content and important cultural functions, namely, the entertainment and carnival function, blessing and religious function, affinity and social functions, and marking of natural and seasonal rhythms. Different from the western festivals based on some cultural factor and human regulation, the Han nationality's traditional festivals are based on natural rhythms and thus have developed many cultural functions.
