Objective:To observe immediate effects of a single hot footbath on arterial stiffness in human. Methods:With a counterbalanced, randomized crossover own control design, eight healthy young humans randomly entered trials of control or footbath days.Cardio-ankle vascular index(CAVI) was measured in the eight healthy young humans at 0 min(baseline),30 min and 50 min.Subjects in control trial received no intervention while those in footbath trial underwent footbath at 42~45℃ for 30 min. After seven days, trial extent of each subject was crossed. Results:At the three time points in control trial,CAVI of the subjects were(6.3±0.9),(6.3±0.8) and(6.5±0.8) respectively, which kept constant on the whole. But in footbath trial, baseline CAVI(6.1±0.4) decreased to(5.4±0.5),P〈0.01,at 30 min and(5.7±0.4),P〈0.05,at 50 min,and there existed significant difference on CAVI at 30 min compared with that of control day(P〈0.05).Tympanic temperature also significantly increased immediately after footbath. Conclusion:A single footbath could improve arterial stiffness in human for a short period, and it may be associated with elevated core temperature.
