In Everyman, Philip Roth combines traditional literary narrative methods with postmodern narrative strategies such as anachronism, temporal/spatial disruption, and narrative contraction, in an effort to demystify and desaeralize the complexity of the postmodernist narrative. His experiments in narrative form explore the theme of universal human predicament, drawing attention to the titular allusion to the fifteenth-century allegorical play. It is arguedthat Everyman marks a significant turning point in Roth's career.
