Tar Baby is a representative work by Nobel laureate Toni Morrison. This paper explores the metaphorical significance of one character and his living setting, and points out this novel treats a net of significance through the metaphor mechanics, and a deeper and wider space for the representation of the complicated relation between black values and white values, modernity and tradition, and enslavement and rebellion.
