Patents serve as an effective means and a strategic resource to make the shipbuilding companies more competitive globally. However, the lack of professionals, improper government policies and relatively low management levels greatly hamper the technological innovation and patent protection in the shipbuilding industry in Zhenjiang. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a market-oriented and company-centered innovation mechanism integrating production, teaching and research so as to enhance its core competitiveness.
