论晚清译者陈寿彭的职业化趋向

CHEN Shou-peng and Translation Activities in Late Qing China

作为一名处于思想、文化和社会转型期的读书人,陈寿彭在翻译刚刚开始成为一种职业并受到同时代人们普遍歧视的情况下,已展现出现代意义的职业译者应有的品质。他在翻译和出版China Sea Directory一书过程中呈现出来的职业化趋向与同时代绝大多数译者对翻译的轻视形成鲜明对比,其职业精神和行为对今天学界仍在努力的翻译职业化事业具有借鉴意义。

As an emerging profession, translation goes through so much prejudice and discrimination in late Qing China. Though strictly speaking, he can not be regarded as a professional translator, CHEN Shou-peng has possessed the professional translating qualifications. Taking CHEN＇ s translation of China Sea Directory as a ease study, the marginal status of translation in modem China is analyzed and his professional behavior in tile translation activity is examined. The meaning of the case for the current trend of translation professionalization is explored.
