"I Don't Know What They Say About Me":A Review of Western Studies on W.H.Auden

奥登是20世纪英美诗坛一颗耀眼的明星,30年代既已成名,70多年来,西方奥登研究取得了丰硕的成果。本文将西方的奥登研究大致分为三个阶段:奥登在世时为第一阶段,热点问题突出,争议不断;奥登去世后到20世纪末为第二阶段,传记研究取得突出成果,研究广度不断扩大,研究方法多样;第三阶段为21世纪初的近十年,一手资料日渐丰富,奥登研究呈现出综合比较与跨学科的特点。

W. H. Auden, who came to fame around the 1930s, was a famous poet in the 20th century in English and American literature. Over the next 70 years since then, studies on him have abounded in the West. This review divides Auden studies into three stages： the first stage covers Auden＇s lifetime, during which certain hot topics were discussed and critics＇ evaluation of him differed; the second covers the period from Auden＇s death to the end of the 20th century--biographies of him accumulated and studies were extended to a wider scope with the help of a diversity of critical approaches; the recent ten years make up the third stage： more first-hand materials of Auden were published, and comprehensive and interdisciplinary studies became a trend.
