In American is one of the best novels by Susan Sontag. Its narrators, letter narratives and unique travel pattern adroitly combine the narrative fragments, various subjects and Sontag's complicated writing motivation. Thus the novel presents for the reader a fictional world blurring the boundaries of history, novel and reality. This essay discusses Sontag's combining skills in In America from the perspective of narratology.
