Renmin University of China's Role and Function in Higher Education in the Initial Period of New China's Establishment

中国人民大学作为中国共产党亲手创办的第一所社会主义新型大学,在新中国成立初期秉持"立学为民,治学报国"精神,适应国家建设需要,发挥了独特而重要的作用。中国人民大学是新中国兴办新型高等教育的创举和典范,并长期担当新中国文科高等教育的"工作母机";确立并实现了"培养万千建国干部"的人才培养目标,并践行人民教育,向工农子弟开门,成为新中国推行平民教育第一校;致力于讲授和发展马克思主义理论,为马克思主义在新中国的传播和普及起到了开创性、奠基性作用,为巩固新生政权作出了突出的贡献。

As the first socialist university established by the newly founded People＇s Republic of China, Renmin University of China（RUC）held the principle of＂a university established for the people,an education ideology designed for the country＂,meeting the needs of the countries’construction,demonstrating an unique and very important role in the initial period.The RUC was the initiative and model in the effort of new China＇s conducting new style higher education,and acted as ＂machine tools＂in the humanities and social sciences higher education in a long period.The RUC had trained thousands of constructors for new China,it opened the door for the worker and peasant and became the first university of new China to explore the mass education.The RUC endeavored in teaching and developing the Marxism theories,played a groundbreaking role for the spread and popularization of the Marxism theories in new China,and made a breakthrough contribution to the consolidation of the new regime.
