双声叠韵说问题辨疑

A Query of the Validity of the Theories of Chinese Alliteration and Rhyming Compounding

论及双声、叠韵问题,传统语文学家与现代语言学家的目的、视角均不相同。现代双声叠韵说是为了支持"联绵字—双音单纯词"说而提出的,"联绵字—双音单纯词"说又是20世纪30-40年代为驳斥汉语单音节幼稚落后论的外来诬蔑而提出的。通过对现代联绵字观念之代表性著作的考察,发现现代双声叠韵说的提出虽有其历史必然性,但没有可靠的语言事实支持,所以越来越深陷困境之中。

On the issue of the phenomenon of Chinese alliteration and rhyming compounding,traditional linguists and modern linguists differ from each other in terms of aims and perspectives.Modern theories about the phenomenon of Chinese alliteration and rhyming compounding appeared in 1930s and 1940s,with an aim to refute the viewpoint from foreign linguists that the Chinese language is inferior in disyllabic roots.With an examination of the popular works on disyllabic roots,this article argues that the modern theories on Chinese alliteration and rhyming compounding are invalid because they are not founded on solid basis of language facts despite the historical role they played.
