Verbal metaphor may be defined as a special lexical and cognitional semantics phenomenon within the frames of predicate and discourse. The article will study and analyze semantic functions and features of Russian verbal metaphor mainly from the following three sides： world-stage semantic relationships, semantic salience and semantic disharmony within verbal metaphor. It is hoped that the discussion of these problems will help to significantly enhance the understanding of semantic features and meaning mechanism inherent within Russian verbal metaphor.
