"鸡不吃了",那"鸡"既可以理解为"吃"的施事,也可以理解为"吃"的受事。这是汉语语法研究与教学中作为有歧义的一个经典例子。王士元先生在前人解释的基础上进一步作了新的解释—从词汇角度,具体说从"词的词义延伸"的角度来加以解释,有可取之处,也有考虑不周之处。
'Chicken" in the sentence "Ji Bu Chi Le" (literally means in English "chicken not eat") can be understood both as the subject and as the object of the verb "eat" in Chinese, which is a typical case of ambiguity in the research and teaching of the Chinese grammar. Based on previous studies, Professor William S-Y Wang reinterpreted the sentence from a lexical perspective, i.e. from the perspective of the "extension of word meaning". Such an attempt has both merits and loopholes.
