An Explication of the Stele Records about Xunshou Guanfu Qishe in the Palace Museun

乾隆十七年,为扭转满人逐渐荒废清语骑射等满洲旧制、渐染汉习的局面,乾隆帝于紫禁城箭亭树立《训守冠服骑射》碑,向八旗臣仆阐发维护满洲旧制的重要性。同时,他还采取一系列措施,强化满人对清语骑射等满洲旧制的维护。乾隆对满洲旧制的重视及为维护满洲旧制所采取的措施,固然较为有效地维持了满洲的民族特色,但其主要目的在于维护满人的独立性,强化满族的统治基础。

During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, the old customs and habits of Manchu, such as the language of Manchu,archery and riding had been fallen into abeyance.In order to reverse the tide, Emperor Qianlong built up the stele records about Xunshou Guanfu Qishe in A.D.1752. At the same time, Emperor Qianlong took measures to strengthen the old customs and habits of Manchu. Emperor Qianlong attached great importance to the old customs and habits of Manchu and the measures which he took, which effectively maintained the characteristics of Manchu, but the main purpose is to safe- guard the independence of the Manchu, and strengthen the basis of the Manchu rule.
