Based on literature review in combination with field investigation, me histoncal rise and fall of Tan'gan Garden in Tangmo Village is generally clarified. Tan'gan Garden, originally named Tan Garden, was built in the early years of the Qing Dynasty and located in Nanshan Mountain of the Water Outlet. Because of its desertion one hundred years later, Nanshan Mountain is also known as "Waste Land Mountain". During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, a new garden was built in the north of the brook to be connected with Jun Pool, which was then called "New Pool", and commonly called "Little West Lake" by later generations. But over one hundred years later, the new garden was destroyed by war during Xian Feng and Tong Zhi periods, and restored in the charge of Xu Chengyao in the period of the Republic of China. Over forty years later, it was again severely damaged during the Culture Revolution and restored after the Reform and Opening to the Outside World. Unfortunately, Tan Garden in Nanshan Mountain hasn't yet been brought back to life.
