"9.11"事件迫使许多美国作家转向新现实主义,推出一些被称为后9.11文学的佳作,其中厄普代克的小说《恐怖分子》特别具有代表性,集中反映了这类作品的诸多特点,在探讨全球化语境下的文化冲突、霸权话语、宗教分歧、种族矛盾和恐怖主义产生的根源等方面作了开拓性尝试。
9/11 Terrorist Attack forced many American novelists to turn from postmodern experiment to neo-realist writing. In his new novel Terrorist Updike focuses on cultural conflicts, hegemonic discourse, religion distributes, racial differences and terrorism, demonstrating major characteristics of the post-9/11 literature.
