Zhang Dai＇s essays regard vulgarity as beauty,focusing on festivals,customs,respectabilities of social life and town artists,and in art,integrate vulgarity into elegance,absorbing the advantages of vernacular short stories and learning some techniques of expression from popular literature and art.The following are the main reasons for the integration of vulgarity into elegance of Zhang Dai＇s aesthetic characteristics,following convention in life style,upholding convention in ideology and advocating convention in creation sense.
