Lexical semantics research is the foundation and the most important part of cognitive linguistics. This paper aims to first give an account of the main ideas of several important theories in terms of cognitive lexical semantics and their role in the description and explanation of lexical meaning. Then it analyzes the importance of cognitive lexical se- mantics and explores the implications for college English lexicological learning and teaching.
