Culture Origin Exploration on Lord Rabbit

兔儿爷是老北京中秋节代表性的节俗用品,它渊源于古老的月亮崇拜。明清以来,月宫玉兔逐渐从月崇拜的附属物中分离出来,在祭月仪式中形成了独立的形象,并逐渐丰富。兔儿爷兼具神圣和世俗的品性,融祭祀和游乐的功能于一体。如今兔儿爷已经成为最具代表性的北京非物质文化遗产之一,应该被更好地传承和弘扬。

Lord Rabbit, or Tu＇er Ye, in Chinese is one of the representative festival custom decorations of Mid -Autumn Festival in old Beijing. It came from ancient adoration to the moon. Since Ming and Qing Dynasty, rabbit on the moon was gradually separated from adjunct of moon adoration, formed independent image in moon ceremony and became various. With the characteristics of both dignity and earthliness, Lord Rabbit realizes the integrated function of sacrifice and entertainments. Lord Rabbit has become one of the most representative gifts of intangible cultural heritage in Beijing now and it should be inherited and promoted better in the future.
