《心爱的树》通过古韵清香的槐树遭砍伐,具有古典情怀的君子大先生身患绝症等艺术表现,透露出作者对传统文化之根断裂的哀叹,为大先生,为这个早没有了"君子"的当今世界而痛心,以表达寻找失去精神家园的创作主题,作品反映了现代社会深层的文化心理和集体无意识。在人物形象塑造上,作品超出了蒋韵以往小说书写的惯常模式,完成了对同类题材作品的超越。以旁观者凌香的视角叙述为主,以梅巧等第三人称限制视角叙述为辅安排结构,这种叙事方式除了便于多角度多层面地凸显大先生性格特征、情感世界外,还特别产生了多声共振艺术效果。
