Ethnic Problems in China

民族问题在许多国家都是一个非常敏感而又重要的问题,无论是政府部门、知识阶层还是普通民众,对于中国民族问题的重要性都有了新的认识。要解决中国民族关系问题,就要淡化各少数民族的"民族"意识,强化中华民族的"民族"意识和国民意识、公民意识。真正要加强的政治认同的对象应当是"中华民族",而不是各自所属的"民族",对于56个"民族"这一层面的群体的认同,应该逐步"去政治化",保留各自传统的文化认同,尊重各自不同的文化传统,包括语言、宗教和生活习俗。

In many countries, ethnic problems are both sensitive and important. Ether the government, the intellectuals or the ordinary people in China should have a new understanding of the significance of such problems. If it is expected to solve the problems of the ethnic relations in China, we should weaken the concept of ＂ethnic group＂ or ＂minority group＂, and enhance the consciousness of the Chinese nation. The political identity to pursue should be the Chinese nation rather than ＂ethnic groups＂. The identity of the 56 ethnic groups in China should be de - political while the maintenance of their cultural traditions, including their languages, religions and lifestyles should be respected.
