The Silk Road is an important route connecting Europe and Asia. However, silk was not the necessary commodity for the survival of the ancient route, so the Silk Road was often broken, especially when Islam marched its way eastwards. The Silk Rood resumed its function as the tea - addicted people appeared and the tea - horse business started on the Silk Road. In the Tang and Song dynasties, the major commodity on the Silk Road was tea rather than silk, thus leading to the transformation of the Silk Road to the Tea - Horse Road.
