Comparison of Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang's "Song of Eternal Sorrow" and Xu Yuanchong's "The Everlasting Regret"——Based on Poem Translation Standards

诗歌翻译具有基本标准和最高标准,参考这两个标准对白居易叙事长诗《长恨歌》的两个译文从"音美"、"形似"、"意准"三个角度进行比较分析,可以得出结论:许渊冲的翻译作品从总体来看比杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇的翻译更胜一筹,符合诗歌翻译的最高标准,为古诗翻译不可多得的佳品。

There are basic standard and highest standard for poem translation. Using the two standards as reference to compare Yang Xiauyi and Gladys Yang＇s ＂Song of Eternal Sorrow＂ and Xu Yuanchong＇s ＂The Everlasting Regret＂, which are the two English translation versions ofBai Juyi＇s long narrative poem, from three aspects of ＂beauty in sound＂,＂similarity in form＂ and ＂equivalence in meaning＂, a conclusion can be drawn that in general Xu Yuanchong＇s translation is better than the Yangs＇, which accords with the highest standard of poem translation and is extraordinary in ancient poem translation.
