硕士研究生EAP习得模式探索——武汉科技大学某研究所硕士生学术英语习得个案研究 被引量:26

An Investigation of the EAP Literacy Acquisition Process of Master Students: A Case Study of Master Students at a Research Institute of Wuhan University of Science and Technology

摘要 虽然我国高校还没有形成有效的学术英语(English for Academic Purposes,EAP)教学体系,但中国研究生用英语发表论文的数量却逐年递增,说明许多研究生自己习得了很强的EAP应用能力。本文通过半结构访谈方式,对武汉科技大学某研究所四名硕士研究生的EAP习得过程进行了研究。结果表明,即使是英语基础不是很好的硕士研究生,只要动机足够强烈,完全有可能在导师的引导下,通过广泛而深入地阅读英文专业文献,习得很高的学术英语能力,特别是读、写能力。 Currently in China, systematic EAP (English for Academic Purposes) instruction practically does not exist in most of the tertiary educational institutes. However, the number of research articles in English first-authored by Chinese graduate students has been steadily increasing, indicating that many Chinese graduate students have acquired adequate academic English proficiency in the absence of systematic EAP instruction. This article investigates the academic English acquisition process of four master degree candidates from a research institute at Wuhan University of Science and Technology by semistructured interviews. The results demonstrate that as long as those students with limited English proficiency in China are appropriately motivated, it is dfinitely possible for them to acquire sound academic English literacy, particularly in reading and writing, by reading disciplinary-specific literature in English both extensively and intensively with the guidance of their tutors.
