Objective: To investigate the association between adiponectin gene polymorphism and the risk of post-transplantation diabetes mellitus (PTDM). Method: A total of 398 unrelated renal allograft recipients without previously known diabetes (97 patients in with PTDM and 301 patients without PTDM) were genotyped for the presence of adiponectin gene variants (T45G) by PCR-RFLP assay. Result: GG genotype was more common in the patients with PTDM than those without PTDM (13.4% vs. 4. 6% ,P = 0. 011 ). Compared with TT genotype and TG genotype, the risk of PTDM of GG genotype was 2. 844 and 3. 289 times, respectively (P 〈 0. 01 ). Conclusion: These data suggest that GG genotype in T45G of adiponeetin gene is significantly associated with the increased risk of PTDM in Chinese renal allograft recipients.
